COMMUNITY FIRST

At DBT Orlando we understand that the mental health of the community which we serve is a crucial part of future success. This is why we believe as an organization that works with community members on building life skills and healing must do as much as possible to support the community that has supported our organization. At DBT Orlando we work closely with other organizations such as the public school system, women's shelters, the corrections system, and more to bring mental health into the systems that our society depends on. We must all contribute to support our social needs. Contributing to make things better and give our future the best chance possible at success. Our counselors work closely with our partners to create and support programs that have a positive impact on the communities we serve. Creating a greater connection and path to enhancing the mental health of our community. Below are just some of the programs we have created or are part of. Helping our systems have the support needed to increase the mental health of our communities.

Legacy Partner in Education

DBT Orlando

DBT Orlando supports our resiliency goals for students while they are at Legacy.

DBT Orlando is utilizing, DBT STEPS-A. This is a curriculum adaptation for students in middle and high schools of the skills training components of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). DBT Orlando utilizes the DBT STEPS-A curriculum at Legacy Middle to support OCPS resilience goals helping adolescents develop emotion management, interpersonal, and decision-making skills. Pictured above are Eric Olin and Maribel Rodriguez (LMHC) of DBT Orlando.

Adolescents may face numerous social, developmental, and academic pressures, such as peer rejection, low self-confidence, confusion about self, impulsive behavior, involvement in drugs and alcohol, and issues related to intimacy and sexual relationships. (Rathus & Miller, 2015). DBT STEPs-A enhances and teaches empathy using distress tolerance skills. Problem-solving skills and critical thinking in emotionally driven moments with emotion regulation. Increased self-awareness and self-management through mindfulness skills, along with many other skills useful for life.

DBT Orlando’s mission is to support our community and be proactive in helping build skills and effectiveness in all areas of life. Working with OCPS schools is part of fulfilling that mission.

WOMEN’S PROGRAM

Human trafficking has become a major issue in the lives of our community members. Every year we people from our communities experience being trafficked. In Florida alone, 781 cases of Human trafficking were reported according to wisevoter.com. This is why we knew we had to get involved and use our resources, talents, and education to do our part as an organization. DBT Orlando partners and supports a local program coming alongside women who are healing after being rescued from human trafficking. DBT skills at DBT Orlando is one of the many programs and treatment modalities these women participate in to experience healing, wholeness, and freedom.

Orange County PARENTS Day

Parents day is held at one of Orange County High Schools. It is an event. It allows us to bring awareness and education into the public school system. This program is essential to give the children of our community a better chance at building a future. Our counselor shows up and sets up so we can help set up our community for success! At DBT Orlando we believe knowledge is power! Having the ability to directly give important information to parents can have a positive impact on our children!
