STUDENT COUNSELING INTERN
Are you searching for a compassionate counselor to guide you through the challenges of trauma and help you find a path to healing and growth?
Hi, my name is Tanya, and I bring over 18 years of dedicated experience in education to support you on your journey. As a counselor, my approach is rooted in respect and a genuine desire to see each person thrive. Together, we will work to overcome challenges, build resilience, and foster a path to a brighter future. During my career, I have worked with diverse communities, such as Native American populations, individuals with disabilities, incarcerated individuals, and in child and victim advocacy. I specialize in providing evidence-based support to children and adults who have experienced abuse, exploitation, or trafficking. Through this work, I have gained a profound understanding of the complex needs of those affected by these issues.
Throughout my years, I have also gained valuable insights into the challenges faced by both adults and children who have suffered from abuse or struggled with substance use. I understand the complex nature of trauma and how it can impact individuals at different stages of life. My approach combines scientifically grounded techniques with a deep commitment to fostering resilience and empowerment. I ensure that each person I work with feels seen, heard, and supported throughout their journey. Whether you’re dealing with the aftermath of trauma or seeking guidance in mental health or substance use issues, I am here to help.
A cherished technique I have used often involves guiding clients to create positive self-statements. This practice empowers them to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts, fostering a healing process and encouraging positive life changes. I have experience and understanding in managing various psychological disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, complex PTSD (C-PTSD), borderline personality disorder (BPD), dissociative disorders, substance use disorders, eating disorders, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and attachment disorders. As a Certified SYMBIS Facilitator, I am well-equipped to counsel couples and provide pre-marital counseling certificates for those preparing for marriage. My specialization in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) focuses on helping clients develop essential skills in mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance. I offer phone coaching and lead DBT groups for adolescents, young adults, and adults, addressing a range of diagnoses for individuals and families.
